Limu Street

Limu Street is on the north side of Yanxihe River, Xixi. It had been a shopping street of limu and now it is cultural relics protection unit of Yancheng. 

According to legend, from the end of Yuan Dynasty to the beginning of Ming Dynasty, there were a few people here who sell and process limu, and their fame had risen. According to the history, by the late Qing Dynasty, more than 40 families in this small street were engaged in limu business. The living house was in the back the shop or the warehouse was in the back of the shops. All shops were so busy, and all families were prosperous.

The limu goods that were produced and processed in the Limu Street were genuine goods at a fair price. Especially the quality, it was the best among the peers in the industry, so it has been “Famous and Excellent" products in Lixia River Area, Northern Jiangsu. Along with the development of agricultural production, there were all kinds of farm tools for farming and raising farms, all kinds of main and accessories for bicycles, and all kinds of main and accessories for windmills besides plough. People from four counties and eight towns came to the Street to do shopping and they would not stop shopping until they were satisfied.   

Xixi Limu Street had been in good reputation after being a characteristics street, even the businesspeople and farmers from Xinghua, Gaobaoying, Shaobo, Jiangdu, Jinhu, Yancheng, Huaian and other places came to Xixi to make order, processing and negotiating. The prosperous scenery of Limu Street had been lasted to the 1960s. Although all shops had been changed or suspended, the distribution made by Limu Street for agriculture are in our mind.
